Roger L. Gaff, 66, Warsaw, passed away at 6:45 AM Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. He was born on August 14, 1951, in Columbia City, IN, to Jesse and Vera Macy Gaff. He married Sharon K. Hackworth on March 17, 1973. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Vera Gaff, Warsaw: sons Roger Aaron Gaff (Jennifer), Warsaw, and Jonathan A. Gaff, Warsaw, and a grandson, Logan Gaff; sisters, Joellen Smith (Terry), Warsaw, and Dena Walker (Doug) in Richmond, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father.
Roger worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and retired after 37 years in 2009. After retirement he worked as a courier for Fast Cab in Warsaw. Roger grew up in Warsaw and graduated from Warsaw Community High School. He was a talented singer and won state competitions at Warsaw High School and sang for weddings and at church. He was an avid antique collector and was well known at auctions.
Roger was known as having a jovial personality and had many friends. He loved his mail route family. He wrote a note to every student on his route who made the honor roll. He was funny, kind, generous, and never knew a stranger and always had a smile on his face. If he found out someone had lost a loved one, he sang a song for them, usually “It is Well With my Soul”. Roger will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Roger’s service will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 2 PM in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw, with Pastor David Cripe officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
