Carl Ray Bowser, age 82, of Pierceton, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 11:07 a.m. in the care of his sister, nephew and Kosciusko Hospice Care. Carl was born May 16, 1938 in Pierceton, Indiana to Carl E. and Louise (VanCuren) Bowser.
Carl graduated from Pierceton High School Class of 1957. From high school until 1980, Carl took care of many places in his hometown: Pierceton Post Office 21 years as a custodian; Hillcrest Cemetery 10 years, Carnegie Library grounds keeper; First Baptist Church; Pierceton Truck Stop Restaurant; Laundromat and 10 individual lawns he took meticulous care of. He thoroughly enjoyed football, basketball, and car races.
His entire life Carl struggled from the effect of polio, then as he neared age 40, post-polio syndrome and MS became the biggest burden to deal with, but he never complained. A person who seldom spoke, he loved to be around people and hear what everyone had to say. Carl was a member of the First Baptist Church- Pierceton.
Carl is survived by his sister, Linda Schafer, of Pierceton; his nephew Neil Schafer, of Pierceton, four great nieces who were the bright shining stars in his life, Moriah, Angel (Jorge), Shaylee, and Kayden Schafer of North Manchester; and two new little stars, great-great niece Adelina and great-great nephew Arlo Robles of North Manchester. Also surviving are Aunts Becky Stavedahl, of Warsaw, and Phyllis Bowser, of Mentone and many cousins.
A visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton. A funeral service will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel in Pierceton. Pastor Mark Fishburn will be officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
Due to current COVID-19 recommendations, masks are required. The public is kindly requested to provide their own. Social distancing is strongly encouraged. No food is permitted at this time.
