Edward Schafer, age 80, of Pierceton, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from the effects of Covid. He was born July 13, 1940 in Lima, Ohio to Willodean (Kissinger) and Edward Schafer Sr.
Most of his growing up years were in Phoenix, Arizona. After graduating from Camel Back High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. After one year in the Navy, he was given a medical discharge. Ed worked most of his life in the water business starting out as a meter reader for Warsaw Water Co. They moved to Michigan City to manage the water plant in Long Beach, IN. Years later he was the water and wastewater manager for the town of Bourbon, IN. In 1986 he graduated from Colorado School of gunsmithing in Denver Colorado.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing and had a great love for music especially bluegrass and classic. Edward aka “Fast Eddie” was a respectfully retired member of a large 1% motorcycle club out of California. The family requested the name of the club be omitted although acknowledgment is still given to the club. His memberships included the National Rifle Association and The Baptist Church.
Edward is survived by two daughters, Teri Lynne Wautelet and Wendy Cheves of Arizona; son, E. Neil Schafer, of Pierceton; granddaughters, Moriah, Angel (Jorge) Shaylee, and Kayden Schafer, of North Manchester, great granddaughter Adelina, and great grandson, Arlo Robles, of North Manchester. Other survivors include grandchildren, Nicholas M. Swartz III, David J. Swartz, Cheri M. Swartz, Imad Moosavi, Azim Moosavi, Christopher K. Keyes, Michael T. Barret, Shawn S. Barrett, Brittany N. Mushrush; great grandchildren Mason Swartz, Kaylee Swartz, Jadelyn Swartz, Liam and Levi Arguijo, Averi N. Mushrush-Jay, Destiny M. Mushrush, Anthony and Miranda Leon, Seth and William Keyes, Nicholas Keyes; his lifelong friend, Mort Buckley and his son Brady of Arizona; and former wives, Darla Cheves of Mesa, AZ, and Linda Schafer of Pierceton. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dwight Widman, and grandson Bryce Mushrush.
A visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Pierceton funeral chapel. Pastor Mark Fishburn will be officiating the services. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton with military honors rendered by the North Webster American Legion Post 253.
Due to current COVID-19 recommendations, masks are required. The public is kindly requested to provide their own. Social distancing is strongly encouraged. No food is permitted at this time.
