LaMora May Longyear, 93, of Claypool, Indiana died on March 4, 2011 at 9:40 PM at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Indiana. She was born February 14, 1918 in Noble County, Indiana to Henry and Chloe (Renkenberger) Butler.
She married J. Elmer Longyear on January 1, 1942 in Warsaw, Indiana. He preceded her on November 14, 1999.
She lived in Noble County until 1940 then moved to Kosciusko County.
She graduated from Churubusco High School (class of 1938) and Manchester College with a Bachelors of Science Degree.
She retired from Warsaw Community Schools in 1982 after teaching elementary education for 38 years. LaMora served in the following schools: Wawaka, Leesburg, Sidney, Pierceton, Claypool and Washington.
She was a member of the Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Peace Circle at the church, Kosciusko Retired Teachers, Klio Club and Jolly Homemakers.
She is survived by a son Ron (fiance Claudia Brown) Longyear of Leesburg, Indiana; a daughter Liz Surface of Silver Lake, Indiana; two grand-daughters Lisa (spouse Douglas) Harvey of Warsaw, IN; Rhonda (spouse John) Nichols of Claypool, IN and two great-granddaughters Natalie and Ashley Nichols. She was preceded by one sister Eleanor Knoop and a son-in-law David Surface.
Pastors Dr. Phillip Rogers and Erik Ohman will officiate the services.
Services will be held at the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 S. High St., Warsaw, IN Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 11:00am. Calling hours will be 4-8 PM on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel Warsaw, IN. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery – Warsaw, IN.
