Obituary for Nancy Ann Brumfield

Nancy Ann Brumfield

Nancy Ann Brumfield, 90 passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 31, 2020. She was born January 17, 1930 in Noblesville, IN to Joseph Lawrence and Vera Esther (Stum) Prout and moved to Warsaw in early childhood.

Nancy was a 1947 graduate of Warsaw High School. After raising her children in the Lutheran faith, she converted to Catholicism and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She worked in the Order Department at DePuy Orthopaedics and retired in 1995. She was a diehard Cubs fan and was rumored to occasionally sneak out of work early to go home and watch an afternoon game. Nancy was a serious animal lover and never met a dog she didn’t like. She played on the DePuy women’s softball team and also enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing bridge.

She was a devoted Elvis fan and saw him perform his final concert in Indianapolis. In her own words, Nancy was sweet, charming, and full of “it”. When asked how she was doing or feeling, she nearly always smiled and answered, “Two thumbs up!”. Nancy loved her children and grandchildren dearly but was especially thrilled when she became a great grandmother. She taught her grandchildren to bowl, golf, bake chocolate pie and always let them win at cards and board games. She never missed her grandkids’ t-ball, softball, baseball, or volleyball games and always had the best snacks for frequent sleepovers.

Nancy is survived by daughters, Jody (Tom) Burns of Warsaw and Patty (Chuck) Williams of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Pat (Richard) Wheeler of Woodland, CA; sister-in-law, Mary Prout of Warsaw; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Brumfield of Lady Lake FL; grandchildren, Stuart Brumfield of Lady Lake, Fl, Morgan Kelly of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kate (Paul) Nowak of Warsaw, Sara Burns of Indianapolis, IN, Megan Burns of Warsaw, Cameron (Shannon Kelly) Williams of Warsaw, Casey (Diane) Williams of Los Angeles, CA and Marcia (Jeb) Austin of Las Vegas NV; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her children, Dan and Ruth and brother, Joe Prout.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with Father Jonathan Norton officiating. Due to current COVID-19 guidelines, a memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
