Robert D. "RD" Cole, 73 of Lake Placid, Florida and formerly of Pierceton, passed away at 10:23 pm Sunday, December 13, 2015 in his residence.
He was born on February 20, 1942 in Warsaw to Alson and Maxine Cole. He had been a resident of Kosciusko County until four years ago, moving to Lake Placid, Florida. Bob was a graduate of Pierceton High School, Class of 1960. He also earned the Eagle Scout Award in 1960, which was his desire to continue actively, to promote, support and apply scouting ideals through service. He then joined the U.S. Army which he honorably served from 1960 1966 with the USAEUR 7th Army, 24th Infantry Division, 2nd BG, 19th Infantry.
After returning home from the Army, he became owner of Past Time Bar, Pierceton and then he helped his brother farm until becoming a truck driver for Castle Metals, Franklin Park, Illinois until his retirement in 2008.
Bob was a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association, as well as, the American Legion Post #258, Pierceton, where he served as Post Commander from 1981 1982 and American Legion 2nd District Adjutant from 1982 1983. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #377, Pierceton having held High Honor of Master in 2002; Mizpah Shrine, Fort Wayne and Kosciusko County Shrine Club, Warsaw. Bob also was a member of Loyal Order of Moose of Lake Placid, Florida since 2013. He will be remembered by his family as a loving Father, a great cook and a loyal friend.
He Is survived by his daughter, Robin M. Cole, Warsaw; his son, Robert A. Cole, Lake Placid, Florida; two brothers, Dr. Larry (and wife Cheryl Lynn) Cole of Marathon, Florida and Yorktown, Indiana and Terry (and wife Cindy) Cole, Warsaw; two step sons, Steve and wife Heather) Caudill, Troy, Ohio and Brogan Kennedy, Claypool; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Military honors will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton provided by the American Legion Post #258, Pierceton. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at American Legion Post #258, Pierceton.
